This place is amazing! My husband and I got our own private, secluded salt tub. The outdoor views were everything. I also enjoyed the pre-soak shower to start the relaxation process. The staff was very kind and explained everything to us well! If you are thinking about booking here, you should!

This hidden gem is tucked way up in the mountains... and it is simply an experience you want to have and should plan a little better than we had. If you choose to stay know that the rooms are huge! If you decide to simply use the amenities, please know that their massages are booked out for at least a month. BUT they offer a package with their soaking tub and massage chair that is a worthy experience of it's own.

Excellent space for celebratory relaxation. I love getting the tea service with my tub, my partner loves the amazing-smelling hinoki soap, and we both love the cedar sauna. Last time we went for a soak was mid-February and started snowing lightly and it was exceptionally lovely.

Wonderful spa! Very relaxing, once you've arrived and settled in, but TERRIFYING getting there! The road leading to the actual spa is very windy, and is only one car width wide (with no shoulder on either side!), so if another car is coming in the opposite direction, GOOD LUCK! If it weren't for the sheer terror in getting there, definitely would be 5 stars!

We got a little turned around going up the mountain roads to get to this spa, so definitely pay attention to the signs! The grounds were beautifully landscaped. The amenities were nice but our private tub door wouldn't fully latch. It also could have been maintained a little more because there was a bit of a ring around our tub. That could be because the tubs are outside in nature, though. It also would have been nice to have the option to purchase a glass of wine and not entire bottles. There were a few snacks offered at the main entrance to snack on during soaks. My husband and I got the tub/massage combo for our honeymoon and our massages were awesome. Phillip was so kind and gentle while taking his time on areas I requested extra attention. We felt so relaxed when we left!

Had a hour soak and hour and a half massage. Experience was nice and so relaxing! Con: chatting outside the private soak from client therapist interaction didn't facilitate the privacy feeling. Pro: the massage (with clay mask) was one of the best I've had in a while.

I've never had an experience quite like this. On their website they talk about experiencing the hot tubs in the rain, I thought that was a bunch of nonsense, I could not have been more wrong. My fiance and I went there on our anniversary for some relaxation, let me be the first to say it's an incredible experience. Not only extremely relaxing but immensely satisfying and peaceful. Somehow experiencing it in the rain makes it even better it is the perfect activity to relax and recharge with someone you love I cannot thank you enough Shoji Spa and retreat

I would highly recommend Shoji spa! The location is great and has amazing views. I booked the Nihon package and thoroughly enjoyed it. The salt water tub was secluded and we had a beautiful view of the mountains and forest and the tea from Dobra was delicious. Our massage therapists were professional and did a fantastic job. I would say it was well worth the money and I'm looking forward to going back. Also, A+ on the covid precautions taken. I felt that the staff took things seriously and enforced distancing and proper mask usage, which I really appreciated.

Wonderful and relaxing experience. Perfect for couples and would be great by yourself as well. Lots of procedures in place for Covid safety and everything was immaculately clean. Entire area was very peaceful and serene. Beautiful views as the location is on the side of a mountain. We did the package with 60 min soak and 60 min chair massages and both were amazing. You don’t want to pass on this if you are in the area.

What an amazing place! It was so well kept, nicely decorated, and clean! The waiting area is great for meditation or relaxation prior to hitting the hot tub. The front desk ladies were very nice and explained everything clearly before they let you walk down to your tub. Once your time is up they call you through the intercom that is placed in the room your tub is in. The tub itself is completely private. The only opening is facing the woods. From tub #3 I had a glance at the mountains. I absolutely loved this place and the ambience. I will definitely visit again when I’m in the area.

Lucas was phenomenal. I could tell he really cared about his practice and making sure I was comfortable, both physically and mentally. The only qualm I had was being a bit chilly, but otherwise I enjoyed my experience. Word of caution when traveling to the location: it’s in the mountains so be prepared for that type of drive.

Yes. This place takes the experience of Japanese Bathhouse/Sentō seriously but adapted to a Western public. The hot tubs are outdoors but within a wood enclosure allowing a private view facing a mountain forest. During COVID you will be asked to shower before entering the tubs, but not after. Outdoor cold showers are shutoff during the winter. There is a sauna with limited capacity. An extremely relaxing experience. Gokuraku, gokuraku.

A quaint off the beaten path stop. We spent our time with an hour soak in a hot salt tub with a pretty view of the fall foliage, followed by a wonderful couple's massage. Staff was courteous and attentive and it made for a nice relaxing morning. Get your reservations in, due to covid limited space and times.

This place.... breathtaking, peaceful, scenic, clean, and deserving of more than 5 stars. We stayed at the Omni but would have stayed here had I known how amazing it was. We did an hour in the hot tub (outside), sauna and cold shower. Then had an hour massage- best I have ever had. Thank you Shoji for an amazing experience!

Went to Shoji with my s/o to wrap up an overnight trip to Asheville from Knoxville, TN for her birthday. Cast aside your assumptions when you begin the windy trek up the Shoji. It is an intimate experience. The staff are friendly and welcoming. When soaking you can breathe the calm of the wilderness. Definitely intermix you’re soak with cold showers (the staff recommended this). And check out the sauna before your message. The massage therapists were soft spoken and did a great job. There are two couples massage areas separated by dividers. It may have been weird if another couple was also in the room (hence 4/5) stars. Thankfully it was just us.For dog lovers: When we arrived another couple had found a stray dog, as we departed we learned the Manager was watching after the dog while the couple enjoyed the spa. The couple was then going to take it an animal shelter.
