Relax & Unwind With Us

Enjoy Our New Treatments

We are an unpretentious and unique destination spa nestled on a mountainside minutes from the vibrancy of downtown Asheville. Along with traditional Japanese bathing and soaking, in completely private outdoor salt tubs, guests enjoy spa-style showers, first-class massage therapy, nature setting and sounds, locally sourced spa products – including CBD salves, local, handcrafted signature soaps, apparel, totes and more. Guests don a Japanese Yukata (cotton robe) and sandals before retiring to their private hot tub overlooking the National Forest.

The Savasana Room

Our Savasana Room is where you are treated to a deep, whole body experience from natural therapies. The perfect, restful conclusion to a sequence of services with us. Rest and repose on tatami mats that deliver “far-infrared” heat deep into the body to help relieve stiffness and joint pain all while easing you into a deeper state of relaxation. The embedded gem stones emit negative ions providing an additional layer of meditation and calm. Weighted blankets, neck and knee bolsters, meditation chairs and more all work together to create that deep state of rest and renewal.

The Couples Sanctuary

Absorb the quiet benefits of forest therapy with your 100% outdoor Shoji couples package. Your one-hour tub soak is adjacent to our Sanctuary Lounge, a privatized massage space enveloped by the surrounding woods. After deep relaxation of both mind and body in the tub, you will sink further into relaxation with your side-by-side, sixty-minute Zen massage. You then have the option to conclude your couple’s experience with our Senjo self-scrub exfoliation or continue for another 30 minutes of private relaxation in the Sanctuary with a tea service. $652 + 20% service charge

Shinrin Yoku

Special Group Experience in The Sanctuary

We all know how good being in nature can make us feel. The sounds of the forest, the scent of the trees, the fresh, clean air – being in nature can restore our mood and rejuvenate us. Shinrin Yoku (Forest Bathing) is our signature group experience for up to 15 guests. Bathe in the forest atmosphere and connect with your senses for a unique and memorable special event.

Senjo Exfoliation

This post-soak, outdoor salt self-scrub with deliciously abrasive Korean scrub mittens will give you that full-body glow! What better time to exfoliate you and your partner than after skin already softened by the salt hydrotherapy tub? Feel refreshed and invigorated in the soft mountain air.

The couples salt spa with tea was really nice. The front desk attendant was so sweet and accommodating. We had a big truck so parking was a little stressful but would be easy for a regular sized car. The drive up was wild.

I go to a lot of spas, especially ones with soaking tubs. I would rate this one as average. The private tub itself was nice. Good sized tubs and private space, nice woodsy view. But it didn't feel very secluded. We were placed in one of the 2 private tubs near to the reception area which may have affected my experience. While it wasn't noisy with the bubbles on the tub running, you could hear people talking and moving around if you turned them off. When soaking, I sometimes just want silence and that wasn't really possible here. There were people sitting right outside our tub area, too, which did not make us feel secluded or private in our space. If you are lucky enough to get a tub space down the hill, I think the experience would be much better. The cold shower and hot sauna included in your experience are shared with the other tubs and we would have had to walk out of the tub area and across the reception area (with people sitting around waiting for their service) to get to them. Meaning we would have had to dry off+ put on robes to move between the areas which feels like a lot. it also just doesn't feel super spa like or relaxing to me to have to walk past the waiting area in my robe on repeat (I've been to places where each tub area has a private cold shower and private dry sauna.. now that is amazing!).We paid for a tub side tea service but it was never brought to us. They did refund our money for that service without any hassle and apologized, but we were still sad to have missed this piece of the experience. Finally, we did a "salt scrub" service after our soak. I would not do this again as I didn't think it was worth the money. They give you a small plastic container of oily salt and one of soap and send you off to the showers on your own. We were not given any instructions - just motioned where to go. I was not totally sure how to apply it ... Do I get wet first? Apply to dry skin? Leave it on for a few minutes? etc. Some instruction would have been nice. Also, the showers there require that you pull down on a string to make them run. So you only have one hand to wipe off your oily-salt. It was not super relaxing. The biggest issue I found is the size of their bath/shower/locker rooms. It is entirely too small for the number of people coming and going and does not generate a relaxed, spa-like vibe. There are no lockers to store your items so you have to carry them around with you. There is only ONE bathroom/toilet for all guests and staff and only TWO showers (one shower area with a curtain forming it into two spaces) and TWO very small changing areas. The place was crowded and there was a line for the bathroom every time I was in there. I felt rushed to take a shower before my service instead of being able to enjoy it and felt rushed again getting dressed at the end.If I come back, I would probably opt just for a tub soak and come prepared to dress in my tub area at the end of my allotted time.

My wife and I went to Shoji for our anniversary and experienced the tubs and massages. Cain was my massage therapist and he was fantastic. He was informative, communicative, and professional. He listened to my needs and focused on the areas I asked him to, and because of that, it was the best massage I’ve ever had.

My massage therapist, Monica, was amazing. Her style puts you in a state of deep relaxation and she told me about some stretches to help my tight neck and shoulders. Ashley massaged my friend and helped relieve some of her chronic neck pain. The atmosphere was so relaxing and I felt safe due to the hygiene procedures at the salon. We also stayed at the resort and it was quiet, clean and a very Zen atmosphere.

I had been wanting to come here for a while. I couldn’t have made a better choice by choosing to come on my wedding anniversary weekend. Staff was friendly and welcoming. Me and my husband got one of the package deals. It seems it’s best to book a month in advance if you want a hand massage. We booked late and had to settle for the chair massage. The chairs literally massage you from head to toe. I honestly prefer a massage by a therapist ,but I will say our bodies seemed to find it relaxing because we both fell asleep in the chair. Our favorite part was probably relaxing in the hot tub. Looking forward to coming again during fall season. We truly enjoy our experience!

This hidden gem is tucked way up in the mountains... and it is simply an experience you want to have and should plan a little better than we had. If you choose to stay know that the rooms are huge! If you decide to simply use the amenities, please know that their massages are booked out for at least a month. BUT they offer a package with their soaking tub and massage chair that is a worthy experience of it's own.

Wonderful spa! Very relaxing, once you've arrived and settled in, but TERRIFYING getting there! The road leading to the actual spa is very windy, and is only one car width wide (with no shoulder on either side!), so if another car is coming in the opposite direction, GOOD LUCK! If it weren't for the sheer terror in getting there, definitely would be 5 stars!

We got a little turned around going up the mountain roads to get to this spa, so definitely pay attention to the signs! The grounds were beautifully landscaped. The amenities were nice but our private tub door wouldn't fully latch. It also could have been maintained a little more because there was a bit of a ring around our tub. That could be because the tubs are outside in nature, though. It also would have been nice to have the option to purchase a glass of wine and not entire bottles. There were a few snacks offered at the main entrance to snack on during soaks. My husband and I got the tub/massage combo for our honeymoon and our massages were awesome. Phillip was so kind and gentle while taking his time on areas I requested extra attention. We felt so relaxed when we left!

I've never had an experience quite like this. On their website they talk about experiencing the hot tubs in the rain, I thought that was a bunch of nonsense, I could not have been more wrong. My fiance and I went there on our anniversary for some relaxation, let me be the first to say it's an incredible experience. Not only extremely relaxing but immensely satisfying and peaceful. Somehow experiencing it in the rain makes it even better it is the perfect activity to relax and recharge with someone you love I cannot thank you enough Shoji Spa and retreat

I would highly recommend Shoji spa! The location is great and has amazing views. I booked the Nihon package and thoroughly enjoyed it. The salt water tub was secluded and we had a beautiful view of the mountains and forest and the tea from Dobra was delicious. Our massage therapists were professional and did a fantastic job. I would say it was well worth the money and I'm looking forward to going back. Also, A+ on the covid precautions taken. I felt that the staff took things seriously and enforced distancing and proper mask usage, which I really appreciated.

What an amazing place! It was so well kept, nicely decorated, and clean! The waiting area is great for meditation or relaxation prior to hitting the hot tub. The front desk ladies were very nice and explained everything clearly before they let you walk down to your tub. Once your time is up they call you through the intercom that is placed in the room your tub is in. The tub itself is completely private. The only opening is facing the woods. From tub #3 I had a glance at the mountains. I absolutely loved this place and the ambience. I will definitely visit again when I’m in the area.

Lucas was phenomenal. I could tell he really cared about his practice and making sure I was comfortable, both physically and mentally. The only qualm I had was being a bit chilly, but otherwise I enjoyed my experience. Word of caution when traveling to the location: it’s in the mountains so be prepared for that type of drive.

Yes. This place takes the experience of Japanese Bathhouse/Sentō seriously but adapted to a Western public. The hot tubs are outdoors but within a wood enclosure allowing a private view facing a mountain forest. During COVID you will be asked to shower before entering the tubs, but not after. Outdoor cold showers are shutoff during the winter. There is a sauna with limited capacity. An extremely relaxing experience. Gokuraku, gokuraku.
