This place is such a gem. My boyfriend and I thoroughly enjoyed our time here. We arrived about 20 minutes late, and they arranged our services so we could enjoy everything as planned. That massage chair had both of us in heaven. Lovely!! The only thing I didn’t like about my experience was there only being one restroom in the main lobby. There was a bit of a wait, and you feel rushed while going.

Absolutely great experience. Lodging had a fantastic view, you get to enjoy the beautiful outdoors, and even get food delivered. Super restful and the staff could not have been kinder or more professional. The cleanliness and care regarding public health needs like covid 19 prevention were fantastic as well.

It is lovely… and I would have given three if it wasn’t for the absolutely amazing massage we got.A few notes.Pay close attention to the website when they say to not bring anything with you. There is NOWHERE to put your belongings. They provide a bag for you to carry your items with you. Which means if you want to use the sauna your things come in with you.For the price we were paying I was expecting a little nicer shower/changing room area. Very little space to change and the showers aren’t really that private. (Only 2)The soak is beautiful and worth it. Careful where they place you if you enjoy being n*de. Where we were was in direct eyeshot of the forest balcony, which was thankfully not in use because of the cold.We didn’t have the energy to say something, but our tub had scum all around the edges and a few times I pulled someone else’s hair off of me…even though they say they clean the tubs.

Amazing relaxation with stunning views in the mountains! Went for a 90 minute hot tub session with friends and highly recommend. Very luxurious experience with well thought out robes and sandals upon arrival. We had delicious tea while hot tubbing in a secluded area overlooking the beautiful mountains. We also were able to enjoy the sauna and outdoor fire pit owner and even met the owner who built the spa 20 years ago! The only area for improvement is availability of gender inclusive spaces. Surprising that they had hair ties only in the women-identifying locker room and not mens. Still highly recommend!

Getting there can be a bit confusing. Follow the signs on the road. The spa experience was amazing. The only suggestion is that the bathroom is too small. Only 1 toilet and 2 shower stalls.

The best massage I have had, amazing tubs and the privacy is wonderful. The cold showers feel nice. Also the showers/bathrooms are lovely and the supplied conditioner/shampoo/body wash is actually good. Boyfriend and I did the package with 1hr tub soak, 90min massage, and the meditation retreat. If I could go back, I wouldn’t do the meditation retreat. It (to me) was just laying in a dark room on a hard vibrating crystal whatever mat and felt like it was just a really expensive nap at the end of everything. I think a shorter (30min) tub soak and 90 min massage would be perfect. I love this place though, very beautiful. I just hate that it’s so expensive… but maybe it’s good because I’d be there 24/7 if it wasn’t!

Great remote off the beaten path location! If you go early in the day, probably a good idea to not try to be productive later on. You'll be wrecked with relaxation resulting in hours of napping. You'll sweat in the sauna, so being a change of undies if naked isn't your thing. Wish they served beer afterward, but several breweries close by.

This spa is something I was not expecting. Its located at the top of a mountain in a mostly residential area so it was a bit confusing. Once you get to the spa its self its small but mighty. We went in the beginning of December so it was the right amount of cold for the out door soaking tubs, and the views that we saw were great, we were able to order some food and snacks to have while we were sitting in the tub. We arrived early so they let us start our soak early and we still got our full hour and then some. Once that was over they took us to the upstairs space that was so calming and peaceful. 10/10 on the massage, I had Stacy and she was incredible. Over all the experience was great and even for a small space it had a real way of transporting you to a Japanese's paradise.

Very good spa at beautiful location. I got the Buddha’s Best package at Shoji for my partner and I in December. We had a great soak in the salt hydrotherapy tub, followed by great massage and relaxing nap in Savasana retreat. I’d give five stars if they had a dedicated sanctuary room to relax in between and after sessions. We had to carry our bags around (containing heavy winter jackets) and if we wanted to stay inside, sit in tight quarters in a waiting room also used for check-in. The door would open and close frequently with people checking in and you could hear methods of payment being discussed, which detracts from the spa atmosphere.

I went here today and I had a nice experience on the way in was a little scary because of the winding narrow very steep Road which was only enough space for one car that made me nervous thankfully no car was going in the opposite direction when I was coming and going the parking is very slim the outdoor hot tub was very nice calming and relaxing romantic for couples chilled for solos I also had a massage which was nice the only thing I would suggest to change is the women bath and locker room I know we're all women but a little bit more privacy when we're in there would be nice I don't really care to see anyone else's body and I don't think anyone else would care to see mine either other than that I would come back or recommend a friend

I had a wonderful spa experience at Shoji! I did the Nagusamu package and it was well worth the money; excellent value! The hot tub was very clean, as was the whole facility. I enjoyed having a glass of wine tub side. The massage was excellent and I highly recommend Alex. I haven't had a male masseuse before and was a bit apprehensive, but Alex put all my concerns to rest and delivered one of the best massages I've ever had. I also enjoyed the sauna at the end of my visit. I will definitely be returning!

Excellent experience! The highlight of our girls trip to Asheville was definitely the time we spend at Shoji Spa! We booked an hour in the hot tub followed by massages and spend some time in the Sauna to close out the day! The staff is very friendly and attentive, prices are reasonable and the atmosphere overall is very relaxing. Amanda and Rylynn were our Massage Therapist and we would definitely book them again- they were amazing! We will be back soon!

This was by far the best spa experience! We did the Buddha’s Best package and spent 4 amazing hours in total relaxation and tranquility. The staff is so friendly. The open air salt hot tubs are a great start (with a little Prosecco too!). Monica and Alex gave us both incredible 90 minute massages. Then we ended our visit in the savasana retreat on heated matts under a weighted blanket. Absolutely 5 stars from beginning to end!

Incredibly relaxing experience nestled in the mountains. Very welcoming staff and beautiful surroundings. The private hot tub in the trees was relaxing but I wasn’t so sure about getting a massage from a chair - that chair, electronically measure me and literally touched me from the top of my head to the tips of my toes, including my fingers!

This place is a hidden gem. We enjoyed a private outdoor hot tub overlooking the side of a mountain forest. What made the experience even better, it started rain, which gave a hot/cool sensation. They seem to pride themselves on making sure the atmosphere is extremely calming.

They have healing , magical hands here ! Had a wonderful massage therapist named Steve. I came in with back pain left without it. It's day 2 and still feel great. Husband had an incredible experience! Staff is unbelievably kind, courteous and professional. Hot tub private bath was perfect for a cold winter morning and what a view of the mountains ! Extremely pricey so won't be able to afford another spa day like this until next year. But it is definitely worth it. Note: don't bother with the massage chairs or chea pods as they call it- waste of money and was not relaxing. Go get a massage by the licensed and experienced masseuse and masseur.

Overall our experience was great. The staff was welcoming and the atmosphere was very relaxing. Me and my fiance booked one of the packages that included the massage chairs. While the chairs are adjustable, it's definitely best suited for someone around 5 ft 7 in tall. Overall we feel that the chairs were not very effective at massaging. We plan to go back, but next time we'll book a hand massage instead of the chair.

Definitely a must if you have the time and need a short disconnect and relaxation day!
My husband and I decided to reward ourselves with a visit to Shoji spa and it was such a perfect day! The soaking tubs overlooking the woods were so peaceful, quiet, and relaxing- just what we needed. We ordered a bottle of Prosecco as well. I was going to go to sauna too, but got too relaxed in the tub- I didn’t want to leave haha. So close to town, yet feels like you are in the woods far far away. I already mentioned this place to my out pf state clients, who are moving to the area.

My husband and l decided to travel to go to Shoji to celebrate our 2nd anniversary. We called in advance, since the net claimed there were no spots to RSVP. We quickly were able to get our package: The Michi Package. This included 1 hour at the outdoor baths, 1 hour chea massage, and 30 minutes in the savasauna room. We also were allowed access to the sauna if we wanted to use it.Getting to the location was rather easy direction-wise. Our appointment was for 12:15, so they asked that we get there for noon. The roads leading up to the spa were a little challenging when cars were going the opposite direction. Once there, we had some difficulties getting a parking space, but did manage to get one. Immediately, you notice some Japanese aethetics in the buildings. Being someone who's been to Japan before, I think they did an ok job at trying to tackle a Japanese aesthetic. I personally would've liked to see a bit more theming (koi pond, bonsais, small temple would be nice touches). Upon checking in, we had to fill out some paperwork. They explained how things were going to go. Everyone working there was incredibly helpful and nice. I immediately took a shower and changed into the robe and slippers provided. As comfortable as the robe was, I was a bit disappointed that it wasn't an actual yukata (or a robe themed to feel Japanese). The slippers provided were nice, because they were waterproof; however, I was a little disappointed that they were weren't actual Japanese indoor/outdoor shoes provided. I think that would give a really nice touch. The changing area/restroom was incredibly clean and well themed. The shampoo, conditioner, and body wash smelled amazing. After getting changed, we were led to our private bath house. It was really nice. Simple theming, but perfect. Definitely perfect for relaxing. I loved the wind chimes. The hot tub itself was amazing. Perfect temperature and deep. Just how I like it. Complimentary water was provided to drink. You could order other beverages if you wanted to.After our soak, it was time for the massage. I was quite interested to try out the chea massage chair. Designed by doctors, this chair is supposed to give you a massage based on what your body needs. The room for the chea was really incredibly. Perfect ambience, nice, relaxing music, and all around calming and quiet. We were introduced to a lady to help us with the chea massage. She was able to get us calibrated in the chea. I don't know if I was calibrated properly or not, but I wasn't the biggest fan of the chea massage. Mainly because I didn't enjoy my head being grabbed and moved consistently. I personally would've enjoyed the chea to hit harder in areas. I felt like it hit the mark for a perfect massage. Definitely will use a human next time. You just can't replace what humans can do (massage-wise) with a robotic chair. I'm not saying that the chea is bad, but it didn't fully appeal to me.After the massage was the savasauna room and I absolutely loved it. The heated tatami mats with the weighted blanket felt amazing and was so calming. 30 minutes is the perfect amount of time for this experience. After the experience we were led back to the check in area. We were told we could use the sauna and cold showers of we wanted or we could check out there. I decided to get a peek of the sauna and it seemed really nice. Ended up finishing my time with a shower and check out. It was a very pleasant experience and I wouldn't mind trying a different package next time.

I read many mixed reviews before heading to Shoji. First, this was a wonderful experience. The soak was very relaxing. Tub 5 was at the top, and contrary to what I read, I didn’t think the noise level was bad at all. It was near the sauna and cold showers, which was nice in the middle of the soak. The entire facility is very clean. The savasana was relaxing, but didn’t feel like anything too special. The shower in the locker room afterwards was lovely, but the changing rooms and facility were lacking anything special. Although I splurged, I’m not sure that I felt like the experience was worth the cost. It definitely was enjoyable, but very pricey.

It was a peaceful and pretty property. We booked an hour in the hot tub. Lovely. And then did massage chairs. Once we were properly adjusted, it was an hour of bliss. I would have liked to dial back a little bit of the pressure on my legs but that's ok. It was so worth it. I zoned out for sure! Then our meditation and nap ... That was a surprise for us-- better than we expected. It was r very relaxing. We will be back!

We enjoyed our time at Shoji very much, and found it very relaxing. I personally did not do the massage chair (wife loved it) - because I have bad experiences with mechanical massages. The spa was my favorite part. Secluded, quiet, and peaceful. The garden and landscaping was unbelievable. All of the staff was very friendly and masked up, which was appreciated. It was not nearly as expensive as you might think for a truly unique experience. I would return here regularly if I lived closer. Thank you!

This is one of the best and the closest authentic style of a Asian culture of a Asian spa for rejuvenation relaxation and a great place to rekindle things with your loved one. To get away from life itself this brings you back to nature like no other spa place I have come across. I booked my sister and her fiancee a hot tub soak and massages. The hot tub was a unique experience that they were excited for. They enjoyed the shower and privacy, however after about 30-40 minutes in the tub they got an electrical shock a couple times and got out. The employees claimed that maybe an animal had gotten under it and apologized then told them to wait for 30 minutes till their massages and gave them a cup of water. I gave the review 2 stars because they both really enjoyed their massages but we're shaken because of what happened in the tub. After the massages they even bought a Tshirt as a souvenir. When they told me I was very upset because this was not a cheap gift, they missed out on the the full time in the tub and were upset about being shocked. The spa did nothing to compensate for the bad experience, not even give them a free Tshirt. I understand that these things can unfortunately happen but they should have done something to make the situation right....Update: The spa did contact me and apologize again for what happened, they didn't know about the length of the bad experience. They have rectified the problem and compensated perfectly. I have updated to a 4 star because although they had a bad moment it was overall a great experience.

Shoji Spa is a one of a kind gem located just outside of Asheville proper. A delightfully peaceful oasis, conveniently tucked in to the mountains. The staff was warm, gentle, and friendly. The hot tub was private, but opened up on the side to a beautiful wooded view. Don't let a chance of rain deter you, it actually felt incredible to sip my hot tea and feel the light rain while in the tub. Next I visited the massage chair. Oh my, the massage chair! I have not been that relaxed in a 3 hour timeframe in many years. I will definitely be gifting this experience to others and be returning myself.

I had the absolute best time at the end of July. The atmosphere, vibe, aesthetic is EVERYTHING! I’m not really an outdoorsy person (bugs) but I enjoyed the hot tub. Cain was my massage therapist, and that was one of the best massages I’ve ever had. It was worth every penny and I’m going back for my birthday Labor Day weekend. 10/10 recommend!

Had such an amazing self development time ❤️ we had a minor mishap during my first visit, but the spa made up for it, which I appreciate! Thank you Shannon for creating the best experience!

Piece of zen in Asheville. Enjoy your private hot mineral bath and serene view at this Japanese inspired spa/resort. We have been twice and will go back. Enjoy the sauna, hot mineral tubs, arctic shower, in season cold plunge and massages. The Honoki oil products are available to take home. Please give a thumbs up if this review was helpful in any way. Thanks and safe travels
