4.5Nancy LongNancy Long ★★★★★ Our stay in House of Earth was beautifully appointed, loved the huge window views and that we could open them !! The outdoor sitting porch was utilized for our champagne toast for my husbands birthday!!My massage from Michael was exemptional !We will be booking next year !NijaeNijae ★★★★★ A whole oasis nestled within the mountains. I couldn’t have had a better experience! The moment we stepped into the area to check-in, it smelled like heaven, calm and serene. We were met with the kindest guy with beautiful eyes. I regret not remembering his name. He helped us at the front desk and He treated us like royalty. We got extra special treatment bcus it was a late Wednesday morning and pretty much had the whole place to ourselves. We started off with some robes and slippers, took a shower in the clean bathrooms then headed to our private hot tub. We were in control of the bubble jets that came on and off every 15 mins. I really liked that feature Bcus it reminded us to get out and hit the cold showers. If you’re prone to dizziness and nausea, I highly recommend doing this to avoid feeling ill because the water and 85° weather made it very hot. If you needed extra towels, cold water, whatever it was all u had to do was ring the bell on the intercom and they’d bring it right out to u. We used the hot tub for an hr or so, and had reservations for the sauna but my body just couldn’t do anymore hot stuff lol but those cold showers were absolutely refreshing! Next, we hit some other showers were we exfoliated using in-house made exfoliant scrub that smelled divine and left my skin silky smooth. After this, we felt so relaxed, we just hit the cozy couches for a little R&R and our guy with the nice eyes came to us with some spearmint infused cold towels that I’m still thinking about as I write this. It smelled AMAZING!! This experience was one for the books. I wasn’t expecting this place to be this top tier. The only thing that I’d change is the lack of lockers. We were carrying our bags around and it would’ve been nice to have some place to store our things. Other than that I am so glad I came here. Looking forward to coming again with my mom!Sedrick MosleySedrick Mosley ★★★★★ This was a day I never thought I needed. The service we received was above & beyond my expectations. We came on a Wednesday morning and had the whole place to ourselves. It was so peaceful & serene. The atmosphere is amazing i loved the outdoor shower & body scrub!! To be outdoors is new to me but I really felt at home with nature! I am so refreshed, renewed, and ready to take on the world! 🌎 🙌🏾 Thank you SojiNex MizohoNex Mizoho ★★★★★ Everything there is amazing 🙂Shakara DickersonShakara Dickerson ★★★★★ Blissful experience today at Shoji! Atmosphere, service and relaxation dialed in. My massage therapist Elisabeth was incredible!! One of the best massages I’ve ever had.Dean LibermanDean Liberman ★★★★★ Probably the best spa you're gonna get around Asheville without taking out a second mortgage. I opted for a two hour soak -- this was basically a private outdoor room with access to a spacious jetstream hot tub. Hot fragrant tea and cold water was included with my 150 dollar package, and I had access to a sauna. The staff was very responsive and helpful, and overall provided a very relaxing experience. Really the only downside I can think of isn't even an issue with Shoji itself but the mountain you have to drive up to get there -- the roads are narrow and winding. But even that is offset by Shoji generously setting up signs in the area to guide you to the lodge safely. Definitely will come here again.Benjamin BrittonBenjamin Britton ★★★★★ Overall an unforgettable experienceLaura TutorLaura Tutor ★★★★★ I spent 2 nights at the retreat and had a massage. The massage was so great and the retreat was nice and relaxing. I always make it point to visit when I’m in Asheville.Lydia GarzaLydia Garza ★★★★★ Very calm and beautiful place. A little pricey, but is still amazing. We had a lovely time!John StewartJohn Stewart ★★★★★ Relaxing getaway by myself! The 90 minute massage by Ashley was top notch and I enjoyed the outdoor soaking tub to begin with. I will definitely be back.Catherine SextonCatherine Sexton ★★★★★ I had a wonderful day at Shoji Spa! The hot tub soak was extremely relaxing. My massage was one of the best I've ever had! All of the staff were very friendly and accommodating. GPS took me straight there with no issues. I will be back!AshleighAshleigh ★★★★★ Thoroughly enjoyed my time at this spa. The staff really made it special and welcoming. I cannot wait to come back.Mely MMely M ★★★★★ Whoever leaves any kind of negative review is just being nit picky. I did the 2 hour soak and it was worth every penny. This was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. I definitely recommend shoji to anyone who’s interestedRyan BarryRyan Barry ★★★★★ Shoji Spa was amazing, you get your own private japanese-style bathhouse with a jacuzzi and a drink of your choice to relax before experiencing a wonderful massage or whatever other treatments they offer. We got a Zen Couples Massage and it was exactly what we both needed. They also provide a use as you please steam room.Kailene Van GynKailene Van Gyn ★★★★★ Went for a birthday retreat and it was an amazing experience! The staff were so friendly and nice. I would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Asheville!!Haleigh ThrasherHaleigh Thrasher ★★★★★ I give Shoji Spa 5 stars for delivering a unique and relaxing experience. If you're seeking an American fully private and lavish spa, this may not be the right choice. However, we expected a blend of Japanese and American culture, and Shoji delivered. The quaint structural spa space created a sense of community and respect among guests, similar to Japanese culture. The staff was informative, considerate, and accommodating. The tub soak and Swedish massages were excellent. The therapists were fantastic and attentive to our needs. My boyfriend, who has been playing hockey since childhood, was in desperate need of releasing those years of built up tension. His therapist, Michael, exceeded expectations even providing helpful tips for follow-up treatment. My therapist, Lindsay, consistently checked in and helped me relax, allowing me to release the stress of managing my medical needs. It was a much-needed and overdue experience for us both and we couldn’t have been more satisfied with our time at Shoji. The only suggestion I have is to have more signs along the drive up, but it was easy to navigate overall, I just like the extra reassurance that I’m doing the right thing! Will CarpenterWill Carpenter ★★★★★ Great staff, service, & feng shui. My gf and I got the Hada package for our anniversary and we will definitely be back!terrence erkerdterrence erkerd ★★★★★ This was an amazing experience. It was relaxing and great view. We stayed at the house of earth and I highly recommend it! Great places to eat and the massages were amazing. The other best part was the staff. Without them, this experience would have been this amazing.Colleen WalshColleen Walsh ★★★★★ Wow just wow. A spa oasis in the mountains with your own private hot tub, sauna, cold shower - sign me up!!! I’m visiting from ny and had the best spa day with my best friend and ended with an epic massage from Michael. Can’t believe this place exists I can’t wait to come back!Sophie GouldSophie Gould ★★★★★ I had the best deep tissue massage with Lee at Shoji yesterday. He was kind, open to suggestion, and all around so very talented! No soreness, only release and relaxation. Thank you Lee!Kevin KKevin K ★★★★★ We had an amazing 3 night stay at the House of Wind! The room was cozy and romantic with a huge, open shower. The spa services were excellent and the staff were all very friendly and attentive. Special shout out to Adam! I would highly recommend Shoji for a nice relaxing getaway!Seamone JohnsonSeamone Johnson ★★★★★ Came here as a gift to my partner for his birthday and we thoroughly enjoyed our time here. The products used were such great quality, the facilities were really nice and clean, and the staff were very friendly and helpful (shoutout to Cori and Amanda). My only critique would be having a waiting area for people that are in between services, separated from those who were just checking in and getting ready to start. I think being in the same waiting area pulled us out of the experience while we waited for our next service. Other than that, I would definitely come back, they were awesome!Laura BubblesLaura Bubbles ★★★★★ Lovely Japanese style spa in the mountains for a weekend couples retreat. The place was tranquil and relaxing. The massage was one of the top 3 I have ever had anywhere in the world. My practitioner was Ashley.I was excited about the package and was a bit disappointed. I was expecting more add on services for the price. We started with a soak in a private hot tub and then went to a 90 minute massage. The last service was basically a heated blanket while laying on a vibrating surface. For the price, I would have expected more hands on services.Overall it was a lovely experience that you should try once. Not really a place I would revisit, but a unique and relaxing setting.Doctor SteveDoctor Steve ★★★★★ Incredible views! Perfect for recharging your battery!Kristen SmithKristen Smith ★★★★★ Great atmosphere but a tiny bit run down inside. Did not detract from my experience. The drive up was a little intimidating. Massage was perfect, I had Erik (I think that was his name) and I got exactly what I asked for. The outdoor soak tub was nice, our package included a 60 minute soak which was too long for hot tub time. The staff was perfect.Chanelle AllenChanelle Allen ★★★★★ The spa staff are all helpful and friendly and the massage was the best massage I have ever had in my life. I highly recommend this spa to anyone that needs a break from the everyday Hussle and bussleAnnie RehnAnnie Rehn ★★★★★ My partner & I had a lovely time. We did the 60 mins private hot tub & then the exfoliation treatment. The staff were so friendly and kind. There are definitely some improvements to be made, but they didn't have anything to do with the staff or services. It would really be beneficial to have lockers rather than having to lug your belongings around in a tote bag. Also, given that you'll be showering, there should be a hairdryer, qtips, etc, offered. Also, there is very little privacy in the shower/ changing area.Tara Mc NairTara Mc Nair ★★★★★ Absolutely amazing! We felt rejuvenated after doing the couples package & the massage chair had me so relaxed I caught myself snoring lol. We will definitely be back to try the hot tub spa.Miki NifongMiki Nifong ★★★★★ ノースカロライナで日本風のお風呂に入れるなんて、最高すぎます。ポカリスエットや線香など売っていました。DireStraits_51DireStraits_51 ★★★★★ We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Shoji. The outdoor temp was perfect at 46 degrees for our amazing hot tub experience. The surroundings are beautiful and our host, Kendall guided us through the experience in an extremely personable, pleasant, and professional manner. We'll definitely visit again and highly recommend Shoji.Kristine TrautschKristine Trautsch ★★★★★ Quiet, 18 and up, clean, friendly… we love Shoji!! This was a great getaway! We try to come once a year. We enjoyed the hydrotherapy soak and the massage chairs. Everything was wonderful!Selena MonetteSelena Monette ★★★★★ Perfect spa day with the girls! I booked the Baby Buddha package for our party of four and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience. We began in the private soak which was a fun time to relax and chat. Then separated into pairs for the shower scrub and met back up for the Savasana retreat. We loved every minute of this package and found both the staff and facility to be very welcoming. Will be returning with my husband in the near future!*Only suggestion - I know space is limited, but having some sort of locker or area to store belongings would be nice so we don't have to carry totes to every station.DeVont'e ArringtonDeVont'e Arrington ★★★★★ Linda was literally an angel. It was my very first massage and so I was a little anxious and she made the entire process so comfortable and relaxed that I actually wound up falling asleep. She is truly a gem. Alex, my fiancé’s masseur was also very nice. Every team member we interacted with truly made the experience amazing. It was my fiancé’s birthday so thank you all for making it special.AlliAlli ★★★★★ We had a wonderful experience today at Shoji. From start to finish it was great. Customer service at the front desk was so friendly and so thorough. They explain everything, and don’t rush you. We did the hydrotherapy tub and a 90 min massage. The tub was peaceful, private, and the tea add on was great. The massages were tailored to our needs and I felt so relaxed the entire time.Shoji calls itself “unpretentious” which is so true. It’s earthy, rustic, natural, but beautiful and peaceful. I was nervous after reading negative reviews about the space, but after going, I realized that people will complain about anything! The locker rooms and showers were no big deal. Carrying a tote is no big deal. Maybe if you’re boujee or a Karen this isn’t the place for you. But you can expect a peaceful environment, kind and friendly service, and enjoyable treatments.I also want to thank shoji for accommodating when I asked them if a newly running special could be applied to me. They immediately said yes, and I appreciated it so much!Amy WeichlerAmy Weichler ★★★★☆ Very expensive for just a soak and sauna. Beautiful area though, and nice staff.Emily & Patrick LausierEmily & Patrick Lausier ★★★★★ A definite do over, we can’t wait to return. This was such a nice experience. The staff makes you feel like you’re the only client and take care of you from the time you step on the premises until the time you leave. This is definitely a hidden gem and we will definitely find our way back.Jennifer PlessJennifer Pless ★★★★★ Wonderful experience. Highly recommend!!Ryan CookRyan Cook ★★★★★ 10 out of 10 would recommend!Alex HatleyAlex Hatley ★★★★★ Best spa experience I’ve ever had. Amazing mineral hot bath with a gorgeous view. Actual deep tissue massage that released so much of my tension. Extremely friendly staff who are always there to help. Will definitely make this my go to for special occasions.Arlene PughArlene Pugh ★★★★★ This is one of the most romantic, private, and upscale spas I've experienced. Staff was very friendly. I appreciate the high importance they set on cleanliness and sanitation. My husband and I had the luxury of being in Hut 4, which had the perfect view to see down the mountain. Shoji should be on everyone's Bucket List.Kayla BeaversKayla Beavers ★★★★★ Loved my massage at Shoji! The atmosphere is nice and the service was excellent. Will be returning!Karen JimKaren Jim ★★★★★ The lodge has the best view! Everything was so clean! Really like the shower but the water gets cold after a while! Service was great and I did enjoy the private hot tub a lot! All in all, I would definitely recommend this place to everyone! The best birthday experience I have ever had for sure!Andrew MimbsAndrew Mimbs ★★★★★ This place is fantastic. We came and lodged in January. The snow, the decor, the staff, the lodging, everything is 5 stars. Very clean and and cozyThe freezing weather meant we had to cut our original session short. But the staff were extremely accommodating and comp'd us another session for the next morning. We will definitely be coming backTaylor HamiltonTaylor Hamilton ★★★★★ My husband and I visited shoji today in celebration of our 1st wedding anniversary, and we absolutely loved it and plan on coming back next year!We enjoyed the salt spas with hot chocolate and tea for 1 hour, it was fantastic! Very peaceful and secluded. Afterwords we enjoyed a 90 min couples massage. My therapist was Erik and it was the best massage I’ve ever had (this is coming from a licensed massage therapist!). My husband loved his massage too , he couldn’t remember the therapist’s name unfortunately lol.All of the staff were friendly and helpful, thank you for making our first anniversary memorable!!!-The Grissom’s 🙂Ashley IzquierdoAshley Izquierdo ★★★★★ I just visited at night with my now husband and we had such a nice time. I bookedKinda last minute and was a little bummed it was dark- but it was a wonderful time actually! We got a package that was a one hour private soak- and a 60 minute hand massage for two. It was a great time, the staff was so nice, and we added on tea service. We will definitely be back!Celeste MagounCeleste Magoun ★★★★☆ Beautiful spa. The private baths had nice views, but a somewhat busy road in the distance. The outdoor shower was not as private as expected, but definitely a fun experience. I didn't personally care for the meditation room. The sauna was awesome. Overall, a unique, albeit slightly overpriced, experience.Christopher Hooper (BLUERAVENstudios)Christopher Hooper (BLUERAVENstudios) ★★★★★ A Serene Escape at Shoji Spa & Retreat🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟During a recent visit to Asheville, my wife and I had the pleasure of experiencing Shoji Spa & Retreat, a hidden gem nestled in the mountains. This unique spa offers a tranquil escape with its Japanese-inspired bathing and soaking in completely private outdoor hot tubs. Our experience began with a mountainside tub soak, offering stunning views of the valley below. The serene atmosphere and the natural beauty surrounding us provided a perfect setting for relaxation and rejuvenation. Following the soak, we indulged in a couple's massage, expertly delivered by the skilled therapists at Shoji. The massage was a perfect blend of relaxation and therapeutic techniques, leaving us both feeling refreshed and revitalized.I must confess, I secretly surprised my wife by actually buying one of the authentic Japanese Kimonos from their retail area. The quality and beauty of these kimonos are a testament to Shoji's commitment to providing an authentic and enriching experience.I highly recommend Shoji Spa & Retreat to anyone visiting Asheville or seeking a unique spa experience. The combination of the natural setting, traditional Japanese soaking, and exceptional spa services makes it a must-visit destination.Feel free to check out the 360 tour and photos from my visit on my Google Maps profile, and follow me for more reviews and adventures!Mia WrightMia Wright ★★★★★ Went here for my husband and my first year anniversary and it was AMAZING! Out of all the trips we’ve shared and spas we’ve been to, this one takes the cake. We did the treetop package. We stayed for about four hours and even at the end were sad to leave. The customer service is on point and the seclusion provides a much needed and rejuvenating experience. 10/10 recommendIvy HagemanIvy Hageman ★★★★★ We love Shoji. It’s a nice little get away. We’ve celebrated two anniversaries here. We always book the Buddha’s Best package. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a relaxing day.julia simonjulia simon ★★★★★ A special treat and comfy, affordable lodgings ♥️ love this spot!Elon BarbeeElon Barbee ★★★★★ I loved this spa !! You really have to just take it all in and relax !! The hot tub and the shower were the besttttttt !! 10/10 ! And well worth the money. This place allows you to just reset and not overthink. Loved it !!Amanda ScheelAmanda Scheel ★★★★★ Stayed for our one year anniversary. I’ve had my eyes on visiting for a while and I am so glad I finally booked it. The House of Earth was serene with a great view, especially seeing the city lights at night. The staff was welcoming and very informative and helpful! Location was perfect for the atmosphere, tucked up in the mountains away from the hustle and bustle of the city, but close enough to make it easy to grab a bottle of wine and come back to relax for the night. Spa services were divine!Justin JereleJustin Jerele ★★★★★ Took wife there for her birthday. Excellent service from the start. It was chilly so the experience in the mineral bath was enhanced. Personally my masseuse Micheal was awesome. Attentive to my trouble spots. My wife also commented to me as her favorite massage. Will return.Adrien HelloAdrien Hello ★★★★★ I was originally unsure whether or not the spa was worth the price at first. But after going with my girlfriend, the exceptional service and great atmosphere really made the visit a great experience. I really hope to come again in the future and try out the massages and not just the hot tubs and sauna.Tim RivettTim Rivett ★★★★★ My wife and I reserved a hot tub visit for our anniversary trip and the experience was wonderful. The staff was very welcoming and the atmosphere was very claiming and peaceful.Dawn EdwardsDawn Edwards ★★★★★ To say that Shoji Spa is incredible would be an understatement. Every treatment was amazing and the staff made sure of it. They were so kind and attentive. The treatment rooms were well appointed, sanitized and beyond relaxing. The outdoor treatments were magical and private with beautiful views of the forest atop its secluded mountain.Jessica BruttonJessica Brutton ★★★★★ I stayed at the House of Earth and the cabin space was lovely! The soaks were everything I’d hoped they’d be and I loved the herbal tea offered as an add-on. Shoji made for a very restful getaway overall with friendly staff and a calm atmosphere. I hope to make it back someday for another visit!Margaret MangasMargaret Mangas ★★★★★ Shoji spa was so lovely! Let me start with getting there - this spa is relatively remote, but they’ve done a great job of placing signs along the side of the road to guide you to the right place. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The grounds are absolutely beautiful. I did the 2 hour tub soak with tea service - with this you get to use the cold showers and sauna as well. Very worth the priceDorothy CashoreDorothy Cashore ★★★★☆ We tried Shoji out for a birthday celebration (90 minute soak with access to the sauna and cold showers) and we were totally charmed. It advertises itself as "unpretentious," and as someone who is turned off by more hoity-toity spa environments, I found this place to be magical. I was originally disappointed that I couldn't book us a daytime appointment, but we ended up glad that we were there after dark to enjoy the nighttime ambiance and softly-lit trees. The staff were very gracious, although it's clear they have their work cut out for them because the reception area was not built to accommodate the high volume they are hosting. Yes, it was hopping, but we arrived plenty early and had a wonderfully peaceful experience. Another guest decided to have a loud video call in the tub next to ours, but you know what fixed it? Bubbles! Turning on the jets drowned out all unwanted noise and greatly enhanced the sense of privacy. Cons: We ended up not adding on the tea service or hot chocolate because the prices struck us as high. I was prepared to carry all our stuff around in a tote bag because I'd read reviews beforehand, but it would really take the experience up a notch if they could revamp the space to create room for lockers -- I kept worrying that we were leaving things behind. And while I was fine with the bathhouse culture of having to get changed and shower with no guarantee of privacy, I sympathize with guests who weren't prepared for that and wanted to know about it ahead of time. Shoji should find a way to let people know on the website that privacy during showers can't be guaranteed and that anyone who wants to undress/dress in privacy will have to use the toilet stall.js_loader
